Ortho-nitrobenzaldehyde, also known as 2-nitrobenzaldehyde, has a molecular formula of C7H5NO3 and a molecular weight of 151.12. It is light yellow powder crystal or bright yellow needle crystal. It can volatilize with water vapor and has the fragrance of benzaldehyde. Easily soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene, slightly soluble in water. Reacts violently with pyrrole.
Storage use
This product is an organic synthesis intermediate, used in the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture anti-angina pectoris drug nitropyridine (Xintongding); the nitro group is reduced to an amino group to become o-aminobenzaldehyde, from which quinoline ring drugs can be synthesized. This product is mainly used in medicine and dye intermediates. It is also a reagent for testing acetone.
Preparation
Using o-nitrotoluene as raw material, it can be produced by the following two methods.
1. Obtained by the reaction of o-nitrotoluene with acetic anhydride and hydrolysis.
2. It is prepared by gentle oxidation of o-nitrotoluene.
